The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

I receive a call on a Friday morning for an interview that very afternoon. I thought of it as an April Fool’s prank and besides I wasn’t prepared to be interviewed in a Jetlink branded T-shirt and jeans. But the lady was adamant for me to attend, even if it was at 6:30 pm. I finally agreed and in the evening I headed to Ole Sereni. It was clearly visible that I was the last person. I sat awaiting for the interviewers to call me in. I was a bit nervous, but in no time I was welcomed into a huge room by a smiling lady and a man. They set me at ease and let my nervousness fly off from the window.

They offered a glass of orange juice as I took my seat. Before the interview commenced, I frankly told them I hadn’t done research and wouldn’t be able to answer questions about Etihad in general, it’s day of operations, countries flown by the airline and many others to name a few. The gentleman smiled and all I recall him saying something and end the statement with, “that was quite frank as a interviewee.” To make things worse or better, he asked me about my role in Jetlink and I had lots of stories to share. I spoke about my job for more than half an hour. Once again they were smiling. I was asked to leave the room assured they would call me again. Thanking them, I left the room and went to have a drink at the coffee shop where I was being waited by my Jetlink colleagues. As I sipped my coffee I felt a sigh of relief but I felt I made a boo boo and would not get the job.

Life continued and after two weeks I received a call from a minute unfamiliar number. Upon answering a pleasant voice asked why I hadn’t reverted with the answer. Shocked I asked her what it was regarding and she reverted saying the letter of offer. Astonished I asked her the source of the offer letter and she explained and also asked me to check my mail. To my surprise I was given a job at ETIHAD as a Sales Executive. I ran to my family and informed them about the new job. Our Sunday was filled with excitement in the house and was given only 2 days to make a decision and alas after a lot of pondering I handed in my resignation to Jetlink to start my new journey!!!
