Reminiscing School Days again !

Wishing you all a happy new year.. (Continuation from the last blog..)

Travel is a journey of self-discovery. This is a reminder that while on the road I need to look for the little changes happening within myself. No doubt,  travel molds us and I believe it molds me into a better person.

Alas my day to start training is here. Since a tender age whenever I have had to head for training, interview or a new job I have anxiety the previous night as the mind runs wild with thoughts and I end up with puffy eyes and it’s quite visual due to tiredness and lack of sleep. I wake up early and get ready to start the training journey. I carry my new note book and a couple of stationery which since childhood I have loved collecting.

I get lost on the road as I have never seen some parts of Nairobi, but luckily I had my driver accompanying me. I enjoyed the cool breeze as we drove through the bustling roads and got to the venue. I dashed off from the car waving goodbye to the driver while calling my parents to tell them I had reached. They wished me the best and I felt more courageous to take the training day like a first day of school. I enter the classroom and see only one young lady seated. Not sure whether I saw her for the interview, I greet her with a smile and sit down in the middle. I usually don’t like sitting in the front because I am scared that the tutor would always pick on me as I don’t like making a booboo out of myself; while sitting at the back one always tends to sleep or make noise.

After a wait of almost half an hour, the class room began to be fully occupied. Two Italian (ooh!) tutors walked into the room; one drop dead gorgeous with green eyes and the other a fairly middle aged man. They introduced themselves and clearly said not to call them ‘sir’ but by their names. We were asked to introduce ourselves to get acquainted to each other. The chatter box in me only remained quite till mid day and by tea time I was all over the place, laughing and cracking jokes with my new friends.  I get along with people easily and I am quite adaptable to the places and environs I am in. This is the nature I have encompassed with time.

The training is quite interesting, though composing a lot of physics which I have never ever liked or enjoyed from my school days. The day passes well in the new “school” and it was time to call it a day. I am yet to figure out how to get a matatu to reach home. Tina, a new trainee as well, offered to drop me on her route to home. I jump to the idea and get a lift. Like all parents my folks are not exceptional, they too worry about me when I get late or when it gets dark. I am dropped in Ngara, near a muddy bridge which was easy to cross and ran towards the main road in a manageable speed so that I don’t fall and embarrass myself.

I get home to be welcomed with smiles and equal excitement from my family. I freshen up in a jiffy, have dinner with them and settle to watch TV. I begin sharing the days’ stories with everyone, including about the tutors and the new friends I made and how I hated the physics part of the class as I didn’t understand it. My dad always encouraged me more and more to fight my fears of learning new things and with that thought I left to get to bed. I was fast asleep due to lack of sleep from the previous night.

I woke up fresh, thinking day 1 is over and I have 14 more days to go. I am happy but at the same time worried as I have exams which are more stressful than attending the classes….!!!!!!!!
