“You have to work on the business first before it works for you.”

As we got ready to start the new work environment it was a truly a lot of work that was needed, getting all the airlines to know you exist and also get the hotels to share their best rates so that you can have your best foot forward for the business to start and roll. Days were longer as we had a lot of queries and off course with time you realise some only want to check the prices and still maintain their relationship with the existing travel coordinators. The small office cater for only 3 staff including myself. The start of the journey was long tough and demanding. With help from word…

Choose a job that you like, and you will never have to work a day in your life.

Globetrotter was conceived after Captain Kiran Patel and I spoke. We sat down sometimes in October 2014 at Capital Club within the Westland’s environs. The meeting was arranged by his niece, Neha, who is a friend to date. We met at the venue and discussed over a cup of tea and some cookies. We started discussion on the formation of the company and agreed that three ladies were to be partners on the same. That was exciting for me because the travel industry was never a job for me but more of passion. The formation of the company was started by Neha, and she was to start working on the…

Great things never came from comfort zones!!!!

On 1st of June I started my new job with a clear mind to accept the challenges that life would throw at me. I got to the office to meet all the new recruits and have a great journey ahead. As it was the first day, a lot of reading and induction was done by the General Manager of Etihad, who was working in the background for many months before employing staff. She introduced the team members and we sat at our respective tables to read. Time flew by as there was a lot to read and understand. For a first day, I felt great to have known so much.…

The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

I receive a call on a Friday morning for an interview that very afternoon. I thought of it as an April Fool’s prank and besides I wasn’t prepared to be interviewed in a Jetlink branded T-shirt and jeans. But the lady was adamant for me to attend, even if it was at 6:30 pm. I finally agreed and in the evening I headed to Ole Sereni. It was clearly visible that I was the last person. I sat awaiting for the interviewers to call me in. I was a bit nervous, but in no time I was welcomed into a huge room by a smiling lady and a man.…

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do.”

The sleep was very peaceful and I woke feeling fresh like a daisy. Work started like usual, I also met travel agents and tried to understand the complaints and compliments of each. Like that days passed and it was time to head back to home (Nairobi). The travel journey is great especially when you have the passion of learning and trying new things. Kisumu was a start to that, which was followed with a never ending list of cities and countries to explore and understand. Travelling makes one a storyteller.. but with time I got tired of I now urged to come the ladder to be a ticketing manager. This…

To awaken alone in a strange town is one of the pleasantest sensations in the world.”

After settling in the new office for a week, I was summoned and briefed about what my work entails. In no time I was asked to meet the sales manager in town. We walked for hours and hours, visiting various agents and climbing numerous staircases in the heat without a drop of water to quench the thirst. At first it was difficult but with time it became fun and easy. As days went by, my presence is the office was less and more in the field. This felt good. 9 months later, a new baby was born 😉 I was asked to go to Kisumu. I was excited as I…

There is enough for everybodys needs but not for everybodys greed.

With a long face I left the office premises… life is so unpredictable. The greed for working was a start and I did not expect it to end like this. While my friend, Mitesh, was driving me back, I was quite; sitting still, thinking what I would do next.  He was a good friend who always motivated me in pushing myself to do things. I stared at him with disbelief, shock and confusion, wondering what my next step in life would be. I have never given up easily in life and that’s my strength. A week after, I started working with my brother as a Sales and Marketing Manager, which…

“She is free in her wildness, she is a wanderess, a drop of free water. She knows nothing of borders and cares nothing for rules or customs. ‘Time’ for her isn’t something to fight against. Her life flows clean, with passion, like fresh water.”

From finishing all training I wait in anticipation for the roller coaster of flying to start.   First briefing and uniforms were handed and London bound was the first flight as mentioned.   The journey was just too good. In Europe I was able to trolley around my cabin bag in countries like Paris, Madrid, Italy, Rome, United Kingdom, Amsterdam to mention a few. The lifestyle at some point was full of fun and enjoyment but with time I got home sick – weekends I was working and weekdays i came home and travelled again.   On arrival at JKIA from a night flight I would call my mum and…

    Brilliant minds at work!

Dear readers,   It’s been a while since I last wrote..   Exam fever is catching up and I have 14 days!! But I have always been the kind who reads at the 11th hour. Coffee, tea nor chocolate help me. All I need is some peaceful sleep to enable me to read in the early morning hours.   Exams are here and I am ready, early to class and have settled, waiting for the papers to be distributed. My only thought at that moment was that I have to pass these exams. The paper was distributed and it became pin drop silence in the room as everyone became engrossed…

    Reminiscing School Days again !

Wishing you all a happy new year.. (Continuation from the last blog..) Travel is a journey of self-discovery. This is a reminder that while on the road I need to look for the little changes happening within myself. No doubt,  travel molds us and I believe it molds me into a better person. Alas my day to start training is here. Since a tender age whenever I have had to head for training, interview or a new job I have anxiety the previous night as the mind runs wild with thoughts and I end up with puffy eyes and it’s quite visual due to tiredness and lack of sleep. I wake up early…
